Projected conference champions first....
ACC- nc state/FLORIDA ST.* vs VIRGINIA TECH/miami
...NC State or Miami could play in this game, but I think it's probably FSU and Va Tech. *Denotes game winner
Big 12- Oklahoma/Oklahoma St*11-2 vs. Missouri* 12-1
... I think this is the heartbreaker for Missouri, whether it's against Oklahoma or Oklahoma St... but since either way they'll be playing in the Fiesta Bowl I went with Oklahoma St... more on where Missouri will end up in a bit...
Big 10- WISCONSIN*11-1
...Wisconsin isn't losing again, and they'll win the conference, likely outright.
Big East- SYRACUSE
... Yes, I'm a huge homer, but I'm cool with it...
PAC 10- OREGON* 12-0
... If Oregon doesn't lose Saturday, they're not losing at all. They could lose, but this thing gets way too damn confusing if they do.
SEC- South Carolina vs.AUBURN* 12-1
...I think Auburn is going to lose at some point before the SEC title game, but I think they are still going to win the SEC West, and then stomp South Carolina. More on this later as well...
Now that means there will be four at large teams.
Boise St. 12-0
This is a lock. They aren't going to lose and they are going to be receiving some first place votes.
TCU 12-0
This is also a near lock, and it will either be Utah or TCU sitting at 12-0 and in this spot, but I think it'll be TCU.
Now it gets interesting, because after this there are three viable contenders, in my pretend BCS Scenario. Alabama at 10-2, Ohio St. at 11-1, and Missouri at 12-1.
Honest question, when you look at that, who do you you think is getting left out. Exactly, another Cotton Bowl for the Tigers.
National Championship- Oregon v Auburn
Oregon will be a lock, and the Boise contingent will be apoplectic. But if Auburn's only loss is tomorrow against Ole Miss, or possibly even against Alabama final week of the year, they are likely getting in this game, especially if Oregon is the opponent. You think the BCS powers or the pollsters want an All West Coast National Championship? I didn't think so. So that leads us to the remaining bowls.
Remember, Orange gets ACC winner, Rose gets Pac 10 and Big 10, Fiesta gets Big 12, Sugar gets SEC. Because the Rose Bowl loses the #1 team, they will get first selection of remaining teams. Sugar Bowl will get the second and third selections. Orange Bowl gets the fourth and Fiesta gets the 5th.
So, now onto the remaining BCS Games.
Rose Bowl- Wisconsin v Boise St.
The Rose Bowl gets the first pick, and think they jump on Boise, and the idea that this is a "second" national championship game. If Boise's undefeated, and Auburn beats Oregon, there are enough writers that would vote for Boise--still furious they got snubbed in first place--that they would win AP National Title. Also, with Boise's proximity, this game sells out locally and gets a number as big as the National Championship game nationally.
Sugar Bowl- Alabama v Ohio St.
Sugar Bowl has next two picks and these are pretty obvious. Alabama gives them the SEC representation and Ohio St. gives them a huge national following. This will be the game that Missouri fans are wringing their hands over, but, nationally, this is the obvious play.
Fiesta Bowl- Oklahoma St. v TCU
Fiesta Bowl gets stuck with Oklahoma St., but T Boone Pickens bails them out by flying entire student body to the game. TCU fits geographically and is remaining only because the Orange Bowl made the somewhat shocking decision to bypass an undefeated TCU team so they could have this matchup...
Orange Bowl- Florida St. v Syracuse
SYRACUSE! The Orange Bowl selects the Orange relying on their enormous national support, extended/retired fan base in Florida, and the New York television market. Florida St. v Syracuse ends up becoming the BCS matchup ever, and Syracuse becoming the worst team to ever win a BCS bowl game.
And yes, if you just realized this entire, ludicrous and lengthy exercise was simply for the purpose of finding a scenario where Syracuse wins a BCS Bowl Game? Well, you'd be correct.
