Book I'm Currently Reading: Liar's Poker Michael Lews -- I'm on a bit of a Michael Lewis kick, see below.
Book I recently finished: Panic Michael Lewis -- Lewis wrote two of my favorite sports books, MoneyBall and The Blind Side. But his strongest suit is economics, and Panic addresses world financial crises from the Black Monday of 1987 to today's mortgage crisis. This a dense, difficult read, but thus far, very good.
Outliers Malcolm Gladwell -- It's Gladwell, so it's great. I feel like this one similarly to how I felt about Blink: It's clearly one of the more interesting, thought provoking books I've read, but for some reason whenever he writes something I am hoping for it to be as transforming as The Tipping Point, and even if it's a great book, I am left feeling a little disappointed.
Last Movie I Saw: The Soloist. As advertised. Absolutely fantastic. Both Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey, Jr. would undoubtedly be nominated for Oscars if this movie was released in December instead of April.
Duplicity. I'm a nerd and love caper movies, so this one was fantastic. The actors were great, and it has a bunch of really good twists. Really good.
Gran Torino -- Loved it. Eastwood was great.
The Wrestler -- I gotta say, I suppose this was a good movie. As everyone said, Mickey Rourke is fantastic, and the writing is great, and the overall "quality" of the movie, I suppose, is high. But it's absolutely miserable from start to finish, and there is almost nothing about the movie that is remotely enjoyable while you are watching.

Since I lost my cable service and am still waiting for my coupon for my converter box, I have depended on the radio for my info. I have come to the conclusion that you are the best, despite your youth .
In regards to your BCS comments from the show on 7/8, I think you missed out on one key factor: Which state was the beloved Senator from again? The same state whose premier collegiate football program has gone undefeated twice in the past several years, but still NOT been invited to play is the BCS National Championship game. Think about that for a minute.
The Senator is NOT doing something noble here by asking Congress and the other powers-that-be to intervene. He is merely trying to see to it that, down the road at some point, should his Runnin' Utes have another perfect regular season, they get the opportunity to play in The Big Game. And therefore, by their doing that, his states highest-enrolled higher-learned institution would get The Big Money.
In short, the good Senator from Utah is nothing more than a self-serving, ego-driven, clear-as day agenda-oriented jackass. Words commonly affiliated with politicians more-often than BCS Commissioners.
I would have hoped you could have seen past his attempt at nobility here for what it really is, Nick. But any time someone says something negative about the current system (a system that I am not, in any way, defending), everyone thinks it's a great thing and we should all seriously look into whatever idea is being thrown out there.
The good Senators heart and his mindset are in the same place: his states pocketbook.
Nick, do a show alone on the Mayor of St. Joe!!! He is pumped about having the camp. Going to be a great deal for all the kc fans.

Nick, I turned on the Royals tonight, and it hit me! I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore!
For the last umpteen years we have been told we are rebuilding. Then we unbuild to only rebuild again. Result? Probably another 100 loss season or very close to it....and another high round draft pick, which the Royals will screw up.....again!
We are told we have a new wonderful joint to go to at the K. Okay, nice carousel, and you can only run from home to first so many times. The fact is, the "new K" is an overpriced atrocity. Compare to the NEW Texas ballpark, or Busch stadium, and dude, not even close. The Royals didn't even bother to the paint the rusting hand rails. A Royal blue would have been a nice touch.
So here's the deal, no more going to games to see a minor league team play. No more investing my precious time at night to watch these bums. I have had it. When the Royals get good enough, and have rebuilt 10 more times and can play .500 ball one of these days in this century, then I will come back. And as far as ever competing again for a playoff spot.....only in your dreams with this current management.

Hey Nick, I was listening to your show today. I would like to tell you that I am 56 and I enjoy your show. I try to listen when ever I can.
Soren Petro has to be here in KC? HA HA HA! He has the highest rated show in his time slot with ties all over the US. Believe me he doesn't have to live in KC. He chooses to live in KC. You can make fun of his Stump the Chumps all you want but it beats the rant of BS you just spewed over the airwaves. Another thing, I'll listen to Soren's take on the 09 Chiefs over your garbage thoughtless opinions. Lets face it Nick, you can't do TV cause your beak of a nose is too distracting, you barely can do radio with that whiny voice, the only thing I see fit for you is paper. That would be, of course, you could right anything intelligently. 610 is horrible and their ratings prove it.

I caught the Petro rant. Very funny. Soren is highly respected in the area, but STUMP THE CHUMPS is a waste of time and the guy does seem to talk about Thickburgers an awful lot.
When Soren talks about sports he has solid takes and the guy could easily go elsewhere if he chose to. I'd still prefer he talk more about sports and less about Hardee's/what's for lunch.
I listen to both stations. I can't say how happy I am that Neal & Marty are gone, but 610 is still the JV sports station in the area. Nick, you have fresh takes so keep up the good work.
In the great shopping mall of life, sports is the candy store. What do we have left as a medium for free creative input thought and speech? People are so PC, the Feds are breathing down our necks for everything, and there is so much pressure in everyday life. That being said I have to say, you have the best show going. Your meter and pace of your on air delivery is great. You have this melismic quuality of tone that reminds me of Cosell. You have a smart take on what is real. Personally I won't watch the chefs, yes I said CHEFS on TV until they start winning a few games. I would much rather listen to the chefs (and the Royals for that matter) on the radio so I can rake the yard and listen to some good old radio color! Keep up the good work and don't change a thing. Whitlock is the best writer in the star because his pace is like reading Fitzgerald. You have a great pace on radio so keep it up!

They say "leave your brother in law in charge of your meth lab , put on your chiefs gear and head on down to camero, er, arrowhead. Why would they market to frito lay truck drivers in oak grove and not to bankers in leawood or irs workers for god's sake.

Hey Nick, It does look like the gay boys over at 810 are writing on your blog. it should make you proud that they have to listen to your show. To be honest I only listen to them because the Jim Rome show is during my lunch hour and he is hard to follow for just 45-60 minutes. Your however are correct that stump the chumps is the worst radio hour in KC sport talk history. Keep up the great work. The way Pedro carries himself outside of his job defines himself as ego manic with a short one--if you know what I mean.

Heard Kevin Kietzman attack Scott Pollard personally yesterday and just wondered if you caught that replay and what you thought about that. it was bad reporting and a bad scene by Kietzman.
I hope you confront this issue like you have others and do what's right. It's one of the main reasons i listen.
We have stunk for the past 3 years because the Hunt's decided to not spend all of their allotted cap money on players, but on their portion of the stadium improvements. They are about $33 million below the cap amount every year; which just so happens to equal the $100 million for their portion for stadium improvements.
They haven't put any of their own money into the stadium, but used the fans and TV network money to cause the Chiefs to stink for 3 years. I would not have voted for the improvements knowing the Hunts were going to gut the team on player salaries. It will be years now before we recover from their bad, cheap and typical Hunt decision. This explains why everyone knew the Chiefs needed good quality free agents this year for the OL, DL and WR's, but Pioli was told not to due to the $33 million diverted from salaries to pay for the stadium improvements.
The Hunt's are the cheapest owners of all time; Lamar tried to buy the Royals for around $33 million dollars...cheap.
My hopes as a kc fan and mu fan r closely closing down. KU losses, Texas Wins, Texas Tech wins, we have a lead, we r forth and 1 and thorw>?!>?!?!?!?!? I just dont understand it. Pinkle was saved bty chase daniels and now it show more than ever. I cant say much right now due to my vast disappointment in all of my sports teams thus far, so i will reliqusih any comments at the moment and wait till 2Maro a chiefs vistory would make me feel much better but once again back to the coaches hands leaves me nail bitten and dumb struck so once again go chiefs roayals and tigers and to fight another day of loving the losers i must do!
